Featured Productions

Beyond the Front Lines: Mannerheim Cross Knight Paavo Suoranta

(Original Title: Repunkannosta – kaukopartioritari Paavo Suoranta)

Paavo Suoranta is a legend of Finnish long-range reconnaissance. During WWII, he conducted nearly 30 elite missions deep behind enemy lines as a key member of the specialized Detachment Vehniäinen.

Awarded the prestigious Mannerheim Cross, Suoranta’s service extended beyond the World Wars to Finland’s first international peacekeeping mission at Suez in 1956. A forest technician by trade, he represents the quiet humility and extreme resilience of a true national hero. This documentary explores the life and legacy of an elite scout who operated in the shadows of the northern wilderness.

The Savukoski Detachment: Trailing the Soviet Partisans

(Original Title: Osasto Savukoski – partisaanien jäljillä)

During the Continuation War, Soviet partisans launched brutal attacks on unprotected Finnish border villages, resulting in nearly 180 civilian casualties. In late 1942, the Finnish Defense Forces established Detachment Savukoski (ErOsSau)—a specialized 500-man unit tasked with hunting these partisan groups across the vast Lapland wilderness.

The unit featured legendary officers such as Lieutenant Olavi Alakulppi, a Mannerheim Cross Knight who later served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army. Breaking decades of historical silence, this documentary features harrowing first-hand accounts from survivors, their descendants, and the veterans who fought to protect the northern frontier. It is a haunting exploration of a hidden war and the resilience of the people caught in its crossfire.

The Great Forest Rebirth: The Osara Clear-cuts

(Original Title: Osaran aukeat)

Once the largest clear-cut area in Western Europe, the "Osara clear-cuts" were born from Finland's desperate post-war need for work and economic survival. While critics feared these vast lands would turn into a desolate tundra, history has proven them wrong.

Through interviews with original loggers and residents, this documentary captures the spirit of the wilderness camps where a nation’s future was secured. Today, these forests grow four times faster than the ancient ones they replaced. It is a story of bold, controversial decisions that transformed into a monumental success of northern silviculture and human resilience.
